Renowned Technology Giant to Provide Support for MeerKAT e-programme

Global technology group Intel on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with South Africa’s Department of Science and Technology and SKA South Africa to provide support for South Africa’s Square Kilometre Array (SKA) and MeerKAT radio telescope projects.

Kaapstad - Die proses en tydlyn wat gevolg sal word om ’n terrein vir die SKA-teleskoop te kies, is pas bekend gemaak. Die stigtersraad van die Square Kilometre Array (SKA) het op ’n internasionale vergadering in Banff, Kanada, aangekondig daar is voldoende vordering met die projek gemaak om die verkose terrein teen Februarie 2012 aan te kondig.

Suid-Afrika en Australië ding teen mekaar mee om die teleskoop van €1,5 miljard te huisves. Hulle het tot September vanjaar tyd om al hul inligting oor hul onderskeie projekte en terreine in te handig.

The Founding Board of the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope reported to the SKA Forum meeting in Banff, Canada, that significant progress has been made in the process and timelining of the selection of the host site. The 1.5-billion Euro project will build the world’s largest and most sensitive radio telescope.
